How It Works

Add your courses with grades and credit hours. The calculator computes your GPA on a 4.0 scale and shows the cumulative weighted average.

**GPA Calculator — Track Your Academic Performance**

Grade Point Average (GPA) is the standard measure of academic achievement at universities worldwide. Whether you're calculating your semester GPA, cumulative GPA, or planning what grades you need to hit a target, our GPA Calculator handles it all.

**Grade Point Values (4.0 Scale)**

| Grade | GPA Points |
|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 |
| A | 4.0 |
| A- | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 |
| B- | 2.7 |
| C+ | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 |
| C- | 1.7 |
| D | 1.0 |
| F | 0.0 |

**Weighted GPA Calculation**

GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) / Σ(Credit Hours)

Example:
- Course A: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12.0
- Course B: B+ (3.3) × 4 credits = 13.2
- Course C: C (2.0) × 2 credits = 4.0
Total: 29.2 ÷ 9 credits = **3.24 GPA**

**What GPA Do You Need?**

- **Graduate school admissions:** 3.5–3.8+
- **Competitive employers:** 3.5+ (some firms have 3.0 minimums)
- **Dean's List:** Usually 3.5+
- **Latin Honors:** Magna Cum Laude 3.7–3.89; Summa Cum Laude 3.9–4.0
- **Scholarship maintenance:** Commonly 2.5–3.0

**Raising Your GPA**

Raising a cumulative GPA gets harder as you accumulate more credit hours — each new grade has less impact. Use our "What do I need?" feature to calculate the exact GPA required in remaining courses to reach your target.

**GPA Systems Around the World**

The 4.0 scale is standard in North America. Other systems include percentage grades (India, UK), 10-point scales, and A–F letter systems with different conversions. Our calculator uses the standard US 4.0 scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

GPA = Sum of (Grade Points × Credit Hours) divided by Total Credit Hours. Each letter grade converts to a grade point value (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.).
A 3.0+ is generally considered satisfactory; 3.5+ is considered excellent for graduate school and competitive jobs. The context matters — a 3.5 in a rigorous STEM major is often more impressive than a 3.8 in a less demanding field.
Yes, but it takes time. The more credits you've completed, the less impact a single semester has. Our calculator shows how many semesters of strong grades are needed to reach a target GPA.
Most institutions exclude P/F courses from GPA calculation. Check your institution's specific policy.
Semester GPA is calculated from courses in a single term. Cumulative GPA averages all completed coursework across all semesters.
