Citation Generator
Generate properly formatted citations in APA, MLA, Chicago, and Harvard styles.
How It Works
Enter source details (author, title, year, URL, etc.), select your citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard), and get a properly formatted citation ready to copy.
**Citation Generator — Perfect Citations Every Time**
Properly formatting citations is tedious and error-prone. Each citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard) has its own rules for author names, punctuation, capitalisation, and formatting that differ even for minor details. Our Citation Generator handles all the rules automatically.

**Common Citation Mistakes**
1. **Author order** — APA and Harvard list all authors for up to 20 authors; MLA uses "et al." after 2.
2. **Page numbers** — Required in APA and MLA for direct quotes.
3. **DOI vs. URL** — Use DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for academic articles when available; it's more stable than URLs.
4. **Accessed date** — Required for websites in most styles (websites can change or disappear).
5. **Hanging indent** — Reference lists use a hanging indent (first line flush, subsequent lines indented).
**In-Text Citations**
Our generator creates both the full reference entry AND the in-text citation (parenthetical) for each style.
